CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT
With effect from Friday 14th August 2026 we will be locking the pedestrian access gate into the grounds of Chorley Panthers Rugby League Club. A decision we have taken some time over, but after the repeated actions of some, it is one we are having to make.
The decision to make this move is due to some, but not all, dog walkers. Those unscrupulous ones who think it is OK to exercise dogs on the rugby pitches without cleaning up afterwards. We have to think of the health and safety of all players, coaches, backroom staff and members of the public who use the pitches. We have over 400 registered players, including over 300 children. As most people know, if anyone comes into contact with infected dog faeces, they can be infected by numerous ailments, including the disease Toxocariasis. This is a serious condition which can cause liver disease and blindness.
We have had a new gate constructed which will be locked. A notice was published earlier this week and posted nearby explaining the closure. Sadly someone has decided to deface the poster with the words, “This is a public footpath”. There is no public footpath through the grounds of Chorley Panthers, so there is no right of access into the grounds. The public footpath starts further along Chisnall Lane near to Patrick Farm and continues to the BMX track and not across the pitches. This information is publicly available on the Lancashire County Council Mario Mapping system (link below) which all public have access to.
